Homer Eugene Sayers

Homer Eugene Sayers, 78, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2011 in Good Shepard Village nursing home. 

He was the grandest son, brother, husband, uncle, father and grandfather. 

Homer was the son of the late Paul of Martha (Locher) Sayers.  He graduated from Enon High School in 1951 and remained a life-long member of the Enon community. 

His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become a self-employed building contractor, co-owner of Ivy Manor Apartments as well as the developer and owner of Cedar Village Apartments in Fairborn, Ohio.  He worked for the Springfield Metropolitan Housing Authority for five years in the 1980’s and held a realtor’s license.

Homer was raised in the Maiden Lane Church of God and was a member of Emery Chapel in Springfield, Ohio. 

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Mary (Granger)Sayers ; a daughter, Cindy Sayers of Hilliard, Ohio; a son Fred (Leslie) Sayers of Georgetown, Ohio; a daughter-in-law Jayne (Richards) Sayers of Okeana, Ohio; four grandchildren, Halee, Colton, Garrett, Chase; two step-granddaughters, Brittany and Whitney& family; two of the sweetest sisters, Joyce (Jim) Standard of Springfield, Ohio and Darlene (Gary) Monteith of Ft. Wayne, IN; a brother-in law Ed (Dee) Granger of Ocean City , MD; a sister-in-law, Claudine Huston of Venice, FL;  a caring step-mother Marthena Sayers & family; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. 

Homer was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Michael “Mick” Sayers.  

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 7, 2011 at 10:00 AM in Adkins Funeral Home, 7055 Dayton Road, Enon, officiated by Chaplin Chad L Vickers.  Visitation will be Sunday, November 6, 2011 from 3:00-5:00 PM in the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers the Sayers family asks that donations be made  in Homer’s honor  to Crossroads Hospice, 8069 Washington Village Drive, Dayton, Ohio 45458.
